Monday Night Raw Review

Intro

With the Royal Rumble firmly kicking off the road to Wrestlemania, I think In reflection that their Is a negative cloud, that has dripped onto HHH, from the previous management, diflect, diflect, diflect. HHH's post Rumble Press Conference, was an absolute disgrace, to all peolpe that have gone through hardships, of a kind that I can't talk about. Step forward Cody Rhodes, he spoke with passion, and conviction, and It was nice to see. Shame his boss did replocate that.

Cm Punk segment

I loved this segment. Punk spoke to the fans from the heart, and addressed the fans about his Injury, that he sustained on Saturday, at the Rumble. He said that he had It all in his hands, but he let it slip, he did not blame cody, he thanked him. Mania is now not on the cards for him, but he is not doubting himself, because he is not a hero, people like his friend Chad Gilbert. New Found Glory's lead guitarist. Who is fighting cancer, and his friend. Chris, a firefighter in Chicago are, he spoke about his failed UFC run, because when he got the offer to fight in the octagon, he faced his fear, he showcased everyday heroes like teachers, ambulance emt's. Real people, who have real stories. Drew Mcintyre came out, he showed Punk empathy, because he could relate to his story, but just like a 50p piece, he flipped, he told Punk that he prayed for his injury, he slept fine after the Rumble. Drew told Punk to look him in his eyes. Punk told Drew, that when he is healthy, he is coming for Drew, the two then had a fight, and. Sami Zayn came out to aid Punk. I loved all of this. It was passionate, precise, and to the point. Great stuff.

Judgement Day segment

Mami was telling the boys what she expected, and what she will do later, when she faces Bayley. 

Finn and Priest vs DIY WWE Universal Tag Championships

I liked all of this. The Match fluidity was on point, and was well worked, and was given plenty of time to breathe. From Ciampa, and. Gargano putting insync submission holds, on. Priest, and. Balor, Johny taking a flatliner on the announcers table, but it was Priest, and. Balor, that got the win, and retained their belts, with a coup de grace, from. Finn. But it was what came next, that had me thinking, noooooooooooooo not R Truth. Priest, and. Finn, were joined by JD Mcdonagh, and. The Human Oven, Priest took to the mic, he asked R Truth to join them. R Truth told Priest that he has helped him. He has liqidated his assetts,  and done his taxes, that's not good. Priest then told Truth, that he is not in the Judgement Day. He instructed Dom, and. JD to attack Truth. Miz came out to make the save, but he could not handle the numbers game, and was beaten up. The Match was good, but the aftermath, how dare they do that to Truth.

Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark vs Chelsea Green and Piper Niven

Shayna Baszler, and. Zoey Stark, beat. Chelsea Green, and. Piper Niven, in a flat TV Match that offered nothing. I have to say. I was bored watching this.

Cody Rhodes segment

Then came the segment of the night. The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes came out. His relationship with the fans is something special, he basked in their adjulation, and the emotion that he felt, when. Samantha Irvin announced as a two time Royal Rumble winner, was written all over his face, the fans chanted, you deserve it. He spoke to the fans, and admitted that fans are his escape, in the same way that he's every fans escape, because, on Saturday, he needed the fans. Out came. Seth Rollins. The two had a great promo dual. Seth told Cody, that facing Roman at Wrestlemania, would be a mistake, and instead, he should face him. He called out all of Romans flaws, and calling himself, the man who has made the WWE Heavyweight Championship, the belt it's today. Whilst Romans repressents hollywood, a show up when you feel like, and cheat to retain the belt. Seth, then asked Cody, to choose him. Cody left Seth, and told him, that he would think about it. Even though this could detrimental to both. Roman, and. Seths Championships in the long run. This. Was an excellent segment.

Jey Uso vs Bronson Reed

Jey Uso beat Bronson Reed in a decent TV Match, but I don't think that it will mean much in the long run.

Andrade signs with Monday Nights

Andrade signed with Monday Nights, and i'm starting to get the feeling, that all is not good in the hood, with both flagship shows general managers.

Becky Lynch segment

Becky Lynch was backstage being Interviewed by Jackie Redmond, and she was a tad grumpy by the looks of things, she said that, she will not stop until she gets back to the top. Good on you Becky, now go on and win some Matches.

Kofi Kingston vs Gunther IC Championship Match

Gunther beat Kofi Kingston to retain his IC Championship. I liked all of this. Gunther was the perfect muse, to. Kofi's fast paced energetic style. The Match was fluid, fun, and solidly worked. from Gunther getting a steel step attack, the near falls were excellent, and well timed, but It was a clothesline hook, into a powerbomb symphony, that sealed the deal. This should've main evented. In my opinion.

Kabuki Warriors vs Tegan Nox and Natalya

The Kabuki Warriors, beat. Tegan Nox and Natalya, in a flat and boring TV Match, that the fans in attendance, could not care less about. And I don't blame them, because this made me bored to tears. But it did lead to something funny, well I thought it was. Bayley came out and cut a promo, she boosted herself up, but was Interrupted by Rhea Ripley, who told her that facing her at Mania, would be a bad idea. And at that point, enter stage down the middle. Nia Jax, she completely wrecked Rhea, and made Bayley piss her pants, Yeah ok Nia. No problem Nia. I will make my decision on Smackdown Nia. All of this was pointless, funny, but pointless.

Samy Zayn vs Drew Mcintyre

With Drew stating the facts earlier on to Jackie Redmond, that. Sami has never beaten Drew. I didn't know what to expect, and what I got, was a mess, and underwhelming. Drew got the win. Via cheating with a low blow. and a claymore. This. Was very disapointing.

 Royal Rumble Review

Just a little heads up before we get Into the Royal Rumble review, in the intro I will be discussing themes of sexual assault, emotional harm, and sex trafficking, reader discretion is advised.

Intro

On thursday evening, around 10 pm uk time, news came out about an artical in the American publication. The Wallstreet Journal, accusing former WWE chairman, and TKO executive. Vince Mcmahon, and former. head of talent relations. John Laurinaitis. of serious sexual assault, emotional harm, and sex trafficing dating back to early 2019. Janel Grant the plaintiff in this case, is suing Mcmahon, and. Laurenitis, on the grounds of. Physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking at WWE, for my preparation going Into this part of my review. I read large chunks of this dossier, and to say that I was sickened, shocked, and horrified to my core, was an understatement. The accounts that i read were so digrading, that I can't, and won't go Into detail here. Back In 2020, the wrestling Industry was stunned, by stories brought to light by women wrestlers, this would go on to be called, the speaking out movement, which was used to tell stories of. Sexual abuse. Sexual misconduct. Cohersive behavior, and. Domestic Violence, within the wrestling Industry. those allegations are vital to this case in my opinion, The speaking out allegations went Industry wide starting out here In the UK, and then going global, with indie wrestlers, and WWE NXT UK, and U.S stars getting mentioned. Some got suspended, and some were fired after Investigations were launched. This happened In the same time line. Calling Mcmahon, and. Laurinaitis's hypocrisy Into play. Two years later. Mcmahon and Laurenitis found themselves In very hot water, as the subject of abuse raised Its head again, when historic rape allegations came out about Mcmahon. Laurinaitis was fired from his WWE post, on the grounds of. Sexual misconduct. He was quietly let go. Mcmahon made a song and dance, by going on TV, on both of his flagship shows, and getting cheered by fans. Showing his true colours, and eventually retiring a week or so later. Just 7 months later. Vince would long arm himself back Into the company, and hold It hostage, so that no deals could get through, to do with TV rights, or the eventual sale of the Company. Fast Forward one Year, and. Vince Is gone from. TKO Ltd, and most importantly. WWE. These new set of allegations are not new, considering that Janel Grants case was looked at, but not followed through on. When contacted originally, in regards to the hush money Scandal. Vince resigned from his post yesterday, and gave one of the most faulse statements I have ever heard. Like I said earlier. I've read large parts of the dossier. And Its made me sick to my stomach, and there are two things that I can't get out of my head. The first thing Is, the level of control was shocking, and the words made me feel numb, and there Is these words, when you say no, it actually means yes, As someone who was brought up to believe, you treat women with dignity and respect, I find this behavior, to be that of a privileged child, who has never been told no. NO MEANS NO END OF DISCUSSION. The industry needs to come together, and start to heed with change, now, more than ever, so that Individuals can't become Issues, Problematic, or worse. Monsters. WWE Royal Rumble 2024

Intro video

The show kicked off In controversial fashion, If something awful has happened, 24 hours beforehand. Don't have a known scumbag Introduce the show. Hulk Hogan was a known Vince guy In the 1980's. and an all out horrible person. If you know, you know.

Womens Rumble Match

I loved this Rumble Match, and all of the directions that could spin off from this. The Match had a nice flow to It, and was a great way to start the show. From NXT stars. Roxanne Perez, and. Tiffany Stratton having good showings, an emotional Naomi, making her return to the company, Jordynne Grace making an appearance from TNA. The Multiple Damage Ctrl story beats, to the debut of Jade Cargill, her debut was excellent, showcasing her strengths, and lining up future opponents. She eliminated Nia Jax, and had a lift off against. Bianca Belair, which amazed me. This Rumble was perfectly timed, and was enjoyable to watch, Bayley outlasted the 30 women, In order to punch her ticket to Philadelphia, as. Iyo, and. Rhea watched from the Backstage Area. I like this development, because It means that the plates that have been spinning, can cook for longer.

Fatal 4 way Match For the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns retained his WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship, In a Fatal 4 way Match, that was flat, and disapointing against. LA Knight. Randy Orton, and. AJ Styles. It was slow. It was methodical, and Predictable. Yes, all participants did manage to pull things together, but It was to little to late, in my opinion. The heavy reliance on using Solo Sikoa, is starting to get a little bit jarring.

Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens United States Championship

Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens, was a fun bit of filler. Now don't get me wrong. I hated how it ended, but the Match was decent. The action was decent, and told multiple story beats, which lead to Logan getting the win by dq were overplayed. Thanks to Logans Impulsive co host, trying to give him brass knucks. Austin Theory came out, and took the weapon, after Logans mate, was kicked out from ringside. Theory slid the knucks In. Logan took hold of them, but. KO got them from Logan, and smacked him with them. When the ref performed the count, he saw the brass knucks, and disqualified KO, this means Logan keeps his belt. KO in the aftermath went mad, and put Logan through a table. All of this equisitely shot. No Kevin, does make for a nice change.

Mens Rumble Match

This Years mens Rumble was cathartic mix bag, from the longterm story of the battle of the brothers Uso. Pat Mcafe having second thoughts. The NXT entrants. Bron Breakker, and. Carmelo Hayes, both having good, to great outings. R Truth, doing his best John Cena Inpersonation. Gunther and Cody turning the clock back a year. a tease of a possible Cm Punk heel turn, which lead to him and Cody meeting as the final two, after the Imperium leader was eliminated by Cody. Their mini Match verged on being sensational, with echoes of their epic promo dual from. Monday Night Raw bleeding through. Cody got the win, and could now face the possibility of finishing his story. The Mans Rumble did suffer from pacing issues, but that did not deter my enjoyment. It had drama when It needed It, and humour to lighten the mood over a weekend, that was overshadowed, by one mans actions. With the pyro setting as the perfect backdrop, their will be a certain son of a plumber, looking down from heaven thinking. This year, he will do it. Roman watched from the sky box, as the walls of his gingerbread house, could start crumbling down. Whilst Seth Rollins, looked as smug as a Cheshire Cat.

Overview Of The Royal Rumble 2024

With all of WWE's creative plates all spinning at once, i'm now starting to get the feeling, that if one accidentally fell off, things could be ok. With several directions that they could turn down. This Is the road to Wrestlemania, and were only just getting started.

 Aew Dynamite Review 25.1.2024

Intro

This week has seen major changes to the wrestling industry, relating to how us fans will consume content going forwards. On tuesday it was confirmed, that WWE's flagship show. Monday Night Raw, will be heading to Netflix from January next year, with other content, also on the move. The deal will affect fans in the States. South America. Canada, and over here In the. UK. At the time of hearing this news I was a bit skeptical. Sports when they land on streaming platforms haven't always performed well. With the NFL and Tennis all being casualties, at respective times. The big question Is this, how will WWE make up the money, for advertising revenue? Even though this Is an exciting time for the Industry. It's also time to heed with caution, because. Yes, streaming platforms do bring in subscribers, but at the same time, they also lose subscribers, this is what I call a double edged sword, that can flick at a moments notice, because in the words of Bob Dylan. Oh these times are changing.

Samoa Joe segment

Samoa Joe kicked off the show, by addressing the crowd, he spoke about how times are changing, with the top stars of Aew, all set to battle for his belt. And when they come for him, he will deal with them, the same way he did Hook. This brought out Hook, he shook Joes hand, and told him, that he will have that belt one day. Joe laughed this off, and told Hook to get to the back of the line. Hook took the security, that Joe put in the ring out. Hook left the ring, whilst Joe sat on commentary for the 1st Match. I liked all of this.

Hangman Adam Page vs Penta El Zero Miedo

I liked all of this. It was a fun fast paced opener. Both men traded chops, and fluid exchanges, the physicality was on point, which gave the Match time to breathe, Hangman had nice chit chat with Joe at Ringside, after Hangman chucked Penta Into the ringpost, But It was the final moments when the Match heated up. The near falls were solid, and. Hangman got the win, with his buck shot lariot, this was a great opener. Hangman later on had words with. Swerve Strickland, that led Tony Khan to confirm, that next week, both men will be Involved In dealers choice Matches, where they will pick each others opponents. This Is what I call clever booking, when you think about It.

Renee Paquette and Orange Cassidy segment

Orange Cassidy Accepted Roderick Strongs challenge for a Match at Revolution, and told. Tony Khan, to line up his friends and enemies, for a 4 way Match this week on Rampage.

Trent Barretta vs Wardlow

Ok. I'm not going to sugar coat It. wardlow Murdered Trent, in a one sided beatdown, as. Adam Cole watched on, there isn't much more that I need to say.

Deonna Purazzo and Timeless Toni Storm

Then came the segment of the night, when. Toni Storm, and. Deonna Purazzo came face to face, from matching tattoos. Storm putting shame on Purazzo, the split colour screen effect. Deonna going through their history, to Storm telling Deonna, to shove her tattoo up her bum, this caused a shoe fight, that had me howling with laughter at 7.45 am when I watched this, good stuff ladies. Tyra Valkarye, with. Johnny TV, then called out Deonna for a Match Next week on Dynamite.

Jeff Hardy vs Swerve Strickland

So this is what bitching and moaning does, it gets you a Match on Dynamite, now don't get me wrong, the Match was solid. But did they have to put Jeff Hardy in this position. The physicality was decent, and it showed that Jeff can still go. From swerve proving that imitation, is the best form of flattery. To. Jeff kicking out of a house call kick, that essentially lead to swerve getting the win with a stomp. That poor Barricade got a seeing to tonight didn't it. Cheers Jeff.

Thunder Rosa vs Red Velvet

Thunder Rosa beat Red Velvet in a flat TV Match that offered up nothing.

Sting and Darby Allin segment

Darby put over his mentor in touching fashion, from watching him have to cut his career short, to. Darby entering the business in 2015, to hearing that Sting was coming to Aew back In 2020, to. Darby getting to work and train with his idol, and telling him. You still got it. The fans chanted this back at the pair. Darby then called out. Big Bill, and. ricky Starks for a shot at the. Aew Tag Team Championships. Because darby wants his mentor to go out on Top. Big Bill, and. Ricky loved the Idea of this, and later on. Tony Khan made It official. Both teams will face each other In two weeks time. Earlier on in the evening. The Young Bucks, were interviewed by Alex Mahvez. And the pornstar lookalikes told him, to address them by their proper names, and they did not take a shot at an Ice cream bar loving chick magnet. They watched Sting and Darbys segment from the Backstage area.

The Mogul Embassy vs The Acclaimed Aew Trios Championships

The Acclaimed beat the Mogul Embassy to retain their Aew Trios championships. I had fun watching this, from the decent chemistry. Prince Nana getting put through a table, to the realisation that Colton Gunn loves Peaky Blinders, this was a fun filler stop before the main event. Which was a meaty slapfest.

The Cope Ope Adam Copeland vs Minoro Suzuki

I loved this Match. It felt a battle of two wars, who could win in a slugfest, and who has the better entrance theme. From the start the fans were on their feet, chanting holys***, this was an excellent main event, that was showcased commercial free in the states. Which did not bother me, because over here in the UK. I watch on triller TV with no ads. Cope launched Suzuki through the barricade, and from then on the Match was worked at a slower pace, this was so the story of the Match, could have time to breathe, Suzuki put Copeland In a rear naked choke, but this was his undoing, when copeland powered out of the move, and hit him with a killswitch for the win, sending a clear message to. Christian Cage, who was watching backstage. Copeland then told the fans, that he is still coming for cage. 

 Overview Of Aew Dynamite

Even though Aew ticket sales have hit a slump, whether It's due to dangerous allegations, or signings that should not have been made or, Tony Khans twitter rants, I do feel that Aew are starting to devide the wider wrestling fanbase, whilst putting on decent TV shows, this was evidentally clear here. So here's hoping they can build good relations in the remainder of 2024.

This weeks Dynamite is a solid 8/10

 

 Smacklillision Weekend Round Up 20.1. 21.1 2024

Intro

With the Royal Rumble just six days away, WWE's overall TV product In the build up, to one of It's biggest shows of the year, has been fleeting at best. Over the past few weeks, yes there has been good moments, Like. Cm Punk, and. Drew Mcintyre, having a sensational war of words, to an electrifying return, that has made me rather hungry, but other than It, there TV output, has resembled dry toast, without the peanut butter, and If It read like a school report. It would say. Must do better.

The Bloodline Opening and Contract signing

Roman and his crew, were seen showing up to the arena. And our. Tribal Chief was not in a good mood. After last weeks fiasco, he was here to make this right, he silenced Jimmy, Whilst Solo took on the role of. Bob The Builder, because he could fix it. Solo The Builder, can he fix it, no he can't. This bled Into the contract signing. Nick Aldis over saw the proceedings. Aj styles. LA Knight, and. Randy Orton, all came out, except for. Roman Reigns, so he sent his wiseman. Paul Heyman. Paul undercut Aldis at every corner, telling the Smackdown general manager, that Reigns would not be signing this contract. Because Roman wanted a one on one Match. Aldis threatened to strip reigns, and make the Match a threeway encounter, but all this did, was set off. LA Knight yeeeeeaaaaah. But Aj styles also had something to say, the pair had a pretty predictable promo dual. Whilst Randy just stood their watching. The only thing he was missing was a cold beer, because his demeaner screamed, you guys can fight, i'm alright here, a fight broke out between. Styles and Knight. Randy warned the wiseman, telling him, that he will drop Solo, and he Is coming for Roman. Later on styles told Nick Aldis, that he wanted a Match against LA Knight. Later on Roman was seen, giving his crew a talking to, he made Jimmy like a chump, and Solo look weak. I hated all of this, because yet again WWE have bastardised something, that I used to love, the show long angle. This was absolutely awful.

Legardo Delfantasma vs The Lwo

Legardo Delfantasma beat The Lwo, In a flat and boring TV Match. I don't know what else their is to say.

Pretty Deadly vs Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate

Before I watched this Match On a Saturday afternoon. I was feeling a bit hungry, so I went downstairs and got some. Mr Kippling cakes, out from my cupboard, and after I absolutely devoured those tasty treats. I watched two other tasty treats get wrecked, by. Tyler Bate, and. Butch. But wait, that's not Butch. No. It was Pete Dunne, The Match was a standard affair, with a good dose of good old fashion British physicality, Dunne and Bate got the win, and watching Pretty Deadly think that Pete Dunne wasn't real, gave me real Kane vs The Undertaker vibes, from Wrestlemania 20, Kane vs The Undertaker eeewwwwww. Someone pass me the sick bucket, because holys***, that was dodgy Match

The KO Show with Logan Paul

I liked this segment, from. KO having complete distain for Logan. Logan coming out wearing aviators, looking like Tom Cruise from Top Gun. Logan gaslighting Owens, and giving his reasons for revenge, getting stunned by Kevin, In front of 70.000 people, are you sure their was that many people In attendance Logan, because that Mania was a socially distanced affair, that gave us the gift of, the prat In a poncho Michael Cole. Kevin said that he didn't  remember that, due to the fact that he has stunned loads of people. Kevin went on a passionate tirade, standing his ground, he told Logan that he Is not like. Samy Zayn. Seth Rollins, or Rey Mysterio, because Logan is a joke, that will come to an end at the Royal Rumble, when he beats Logan, for the United States Championship. And to make things easier, he removed the Mel Gidson from his arm. And whilst he did that, Logan punched him, and took him to town, and gave his hand a steel step sandwich. Even though. I can't stand Logan Paul. I can't deny Logans ability, to take on an entire Industry, and come out looking the way he does. He really Is a one of a kind talent. Although I still think Prime, is one of the worst things to come out of the States since. The Disney Channel. If you know, you know.

Kayden Karter and Katana Chance vs Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn 

Kayden Karter and Katana Chance, beat. Alba Fyre, and Isla Dawn, to retain their WWE Womens Tag team Championships. With Damage Ctrl at ringside, Bayley provided some commentary, but that failed to elevate the action. The Kabuki Warriors, then stood tall with the Tag Belts, setting up a Match for next week. I think that this was Damage Ctrl's way of doing there own. Spice Girls Impersonation, from the 1997 Brit Awards. Come and have a go if you think your hard enough, argh yes, a s*** band calling out another s*** band, the Match was awful and gained no response from the fans, and I can't blame them.

Carmelo Hayes segment

Carmelo Hayes was being Interviewed backstage, until he was Interrupted by Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. Hayes will face Theory next week. Oh and one other thing. Well done Grayson for defending this Industry. 

Aj Styles vs LA Knight and Solo Sikoa vs Randy Orton

This was a pathetic Waste of time, that was thrown out when. Solo sikoa got Involved, with help from his brother Jimmy, causing what I hate. Dq finishes. Solo then called out Randy for their Match, and It was a cluster f*** of bad booking, shenanigans, and a good awful finish, that saw Randy get the win. Roman came to salavage something from the fallen embers, but It was to late, Roman takes out Orton with a Superman Punch, he goes In for a second, but Orton counters It with an Rko. to send the show off the air. This was a terrible end, to a terrible show.

Aew Collision

Jon Moxley vs Shane Taylor

Jon Moxley beat Shane Taylor in the opening Match, this resembled two bulls banging heads. Even Moxley Isn't a heavyweight, his attitude doubles the size of any heavyweight I can name. In 2015- 2019 I wasn't the biggest fan of ROH, due to its lacklustre booking structure, but I did like Shane Taylor. His big size and persona made him an ROH standout. The Match was a standard TV affair, that was high on Physicality, but low on storytelling. Mox cut a promo In the aftermath, saying, he Is pissed off beyond belief, and hungry beyond belief. heeding a warning to anyone In the back, Including  his own team The Bcc, If you want to face me, then step In this ring, and Keep up. And at that point I started singing. We love you Moxley, we do. We love you Moxley, we do. We love you Moxley, we do. Oh Jon Moxley we love you. This man Is a treassure, and needs to be treated like one.

The Cope Ope Adam Copeland vs Dante Martin

I have said, all I need to say about Aadm Copelands open Challenge, but this, so far was the best yet, from both men balancing each others skills perfectly, the pace being worked at a moderate to fast rate, to. Copeland getting the win with his grindhouse Submission. Copeland then took to the mic afterwards, and called Christian Cage, Copeland and said that every week, he Is going to work harder, everytime he steps In the ring, so he can bring the TNT Championship, back to TNT. Ok I'm hungry, so I'm off to Mcdonalds, to get a happy meal. Later Private Party, challenged. Top Flight to a rematch, which was duely accepted.

Lexi Nair Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castag noli segment

Because like all good families, they patch things after they fight, I also think that. Eddie Kingston, is not a big Elton John fan, neither am I. I'm more into. Metallica. Thunder Rosa beat Queen Aminata in a standard TV Match, that offered absolutely nothing.

Bang Bang Scissor Gang Formation

Bullet Club Gold then came out, to celebrate their title win from last Wednesday. This segment was a lot of fun, from the cardboard cut out of Juice Robinson. To the Acclaimed coming, and forming a super faction with, the. Bang Bang Gang, called. The Bang Bang Scissor Gang. I loved all of this. Let the odd group comedy begin.

Timeless Toni Storm segment

Timeless Toni Storm, agreed to have a face to face, with. deonna Purrazzo this wednesday on Dynamite. This should be Interesting.

Daniel Garcia vs Bubby Mathews

This Match was easily the Match of the night, by far. from. Ftr watching at ringside. Daddy Magic on commentary, a near promised dance off, to the physicality being performed at an excellent level, from a suplex to the outside that caused a near count out, Bubby giving Garcia a sickening DDT, to Daniel taking notes from the Bret Hart handbook, on how to work over someones knees, Including a sharpshooter, which added to the fun. Daniel got the win, by roll up. And then, all hell broke loose, Wrestlers fighting wrestlers. Referees coming out to seperate the fight. Dax had enough, so next week, their will be a tag team elimination cage Match. Ftr vs The House Of Black.

Roderick Strong vs Matt Sydal

Roderick Strong, beat. Matt Sydal in a fun, but pointless Match, with his end of heartache finisher.

Bryan Danielson and Claudio vs Eddie Kingston and Ortiz

Bryan Danielson, and. Claudio Castagnoli, beat. Eddie Kingston, and. Ortiz, in a fun TV main event. From the phasing out process in the early going. to the physicality, being performed at a high level, to. Kingston Chopping Claudio, this was a well thought main event, with great energetic bursts. Danielson got his team the win, with a Bopsycho knee. I loved this main event. It was a good end, to a great show.

Overview Of The Weekend

Both shows this weekend were a study in contrast, on one side, you have WWE furthering Its decline of one of its flagship shows, and on the other, you have Aew, a company that is figuring out how bring back fans, who may have turned off, with one show, delivering a week, and, pathetic through story, whilst the other, showcased their wrestling talent, and giving something that fans will want to see next weekend.

This weeks Friday Night Smackdown is a disapointing 3/10

And Aew Collision is a solid 8/10

Aew Dynamite Review 18.1.2204

Intro

If this weeks Dynmite has taught me anything. It's a how quick a year can go by. From Tony Khans Insane twitter rants. WWE going from strength to strength under HHH's leadership, to full blown mergers, changing the face of the Industry as we know It, to moments of reflection, when we had to say goodbye to. Terry Funk. Bray Wyatt, and of course. Jay Briscoe. This pass Wednesday marked the one year aniversary of his death, and If I'm honest It put me In a reflective mood. Because life Isn't just a box of chocolates. It's something that you need to hold onto. Because you never know what Is coming later down the line.

TNT Championship Match Christian Cage vs Dustin Rhodes

I liked this opener, from Rhodes rolling back the years, Killswitch having fun on the outside. To me. Cage was working at a slightly slower pace last night, Which I was a bit confused by, Cage missed a dive from the top rope, which caused Dustin to move out of the way. Both men then contested to have a slap fight, which led to a great code red near fall. Nick Wayne then helped his mentor, by reversing a cradle roll up, for another near fall, and the received a Canadian destroyer for his troubles, from Rhodes. Cage and Rhodes had a great back and forth war, In the final moments, that led to Rhodes kicking out of a Killswitch, but succumbing to a second one, so. Cage could retain his belt. I enjoyed this opening Match, from laughter to good action, you couldn't go wrong when you think about It.

Renee Paquette Swerve Strickland segment

Swerve Strickland then spoke to Renee Paquette, he said, that he would have his eye on the main event later, and. Hangman Adam Page. Page would counteract this later on In the broadcast.

Chris Jericho segment

Renee Paquette Interviewed Chris Jericho, who accepted a Match with Matt Sydal, for Rampage this Friday. I'm not the biggest fan of having Chris on TV at this moment. But I do think this could be seen as an act of defiance, which might be him defending himself, or It could be very damaging

Kommander and Penta vs Orange Cassidy and Trent Baretta

I liked all of this, It was fun from the outset, from Cassidy kicking a down Kommander. Trent Proceeded to hammer Kommander, and hitting him with a knee strike, this lead to the Pair Immobilising Penta, and getting the win, by targetting Kommander with an orange punch, and beach break Combo for the win. Roderick Strong. Mike Bennett, and Matt Taven, then came out, and Roderick challenged Orange to a Match at Revolution. When this gets confirmed properly. It will scream, Match of the year contender. His promo was solid, and I can't wait for the Match. Cole and Wardlow had a promo segment later on. That screamed. Wardlow doesn't give a f***

 Mark Briscoe Tribute to his brother

 Mark Briscoe then led a tribute to his fallen brother Jay, on the anniversary of his passing. I could feel the emotion from his words coming through the screen, With his family In attendance, and an emotional video produced by Aew. This Showed me that when tragedy strikes, the wider wrestling family come together and celebrate. Mark was then joined on stage by his nieces and nephew, In a moment of solid celebration. This. Was very well done.

Heel Bucks segment

Ok. I have to admit It. I'm In love with The Young Bucks heel personas, from their attitudes. to their stunning mustaches, making them look like a mixture between an adult pornstars, and Inspector Clueso. This added a layer of Intrigue, to the temper tantrums that they threw, In the back area of last year. They called every old guy In Aew a cancer, but not Sting, whilst reliving their mission statement they come up with to change the Industry. I loved all of this segment, as It leaves the Revolution Match lingering In the air. Sting and Darby, had a nice father and son video later on, showcasing their favourite activity to do as, father and son. Jumping off of things, you two are crazy.

Bullet Club Gold vs The Mogul Embassy ROH 6 Man Tag Championships

Bullet Club Gold defeated The Mogul Embassy, to become the New ROH 6 man Tag Champions, thanks to Anthony Bowens, this teased the Idea, even further of a super faction being created, however. The Match was flat, and I could have done without this on the card.

Deonna Purrazzo vs Anna Jay

This Match was a snug fitting gem that I enjoyed a lot. It was well worked, and given the chance to breathe, Deonna got the win with her, virtuoso armbar. She can called out the womens Champion. Timeless Toni Storm. Their verbal back and forth was hilarious, Deonna take note, chin up, tits out, and watch out for the shoe. Toni got carried out by Luther. All of this was perfect, and a perfect set up way to the Revolution womens Match, Deonna will beat Toni, and will then go on to make a load of Mone. Just Imagine this mouthwatering prospect.

Private Party vs Top Flight

Private Party. Beat. Top Flight, In a fun TV Match, I had a great time watching this Match, at 7.45 am, before I went to my day job, both teams showcased their Immense talent, styles, and chemistry. Aew's Tag Team Division has a hole heap of talent, from the ones who are breaking Into the Industry, to the established names. It's nice to see this form of the art, over the past five years, take Its flowers.

Samoa Joe vs Hook Aew World Heavyweight Championship

I f****** loved this Match. It had no right to be as awesome as It was. From Hooks calm like an ocean demeaner, that changed with a flip of a 50p piece. His barrage of offence that he unloaded on Joe, was counteracted with pure force, because Joe Is a human tank. Hook showed a never say attitude, that Joe tried to squash, by ragdolling Taz's son around like a wet towel. Smashing on the announcers table, and the ring apron. But Hook never stopped, he kept on coming, he kicked out of multiple near falls, but he eventually succumbed to the coheda clutch. Joe retained his World Heavyweight Championship, In a solid Match. Joe attacked Hook In the aftermath, with a muscle buster. Hangman Adam Page, then came out to make the save, as a venomous Swerve Strickland watched on, like a villain posessed. My god this was great.

Overview of Aew Dynamite

I loved this Weeks Dynamite, It showed me this Is a company, that Is figuring were It needs to go, In order to bring lapsed fans back In, from the life affirming heartfelt moments, to the In ring action, ranging from good to great, to even excellent. This Is the Aew that I have grown to love.

Seth and Jinder show

Seth Rollins, and. Jinder Mahal are seen showing to the venue, braving the elements, wrestlers are a differant breed of crazy.

Cody Rhodes segment

Cody Rhodes opened up the show, he stated that he Is done with Shinsuke Nakamura, ( hah more on him In a bit ) because he Is focusing on finishing his Story. But before he could say the words Royal Rumble, outcame. Drew Mcintyre, the pair had a great promo dual, this delved Into their past, and created what could be to come perfectly. Both men laid everything out verbally. From the highlights of the pair becoming Industry changers. both men aiming to finish their stories respectively, to the nagging complaints of the truth, that were seasoned In reality. I loved this segment. Shinsuke Nakamura, said that he Is not done with Cody, umm yes you are Shin, yes you are. Both men will face the muffin lover at some point. The cake that Is, get your minds out of the gutter, this Isn't the attitude era

R Truth making a killing In merch sales

R Truth was spotted by Damien Priest, selling Judgement Day merch, Damien told Truth, not to tag In tonight, when him and, The Miz, face. Damien, and his Judgement mate Finn Balor later on In the show. In a Match that they would go on to lose, In what was a boring, and pathetic Match. Oh R Truth, will you ever learn.

Jd Mcdonagh and Dominik Mysterio vs DIY

DIY beat. Jd Mcdonagh and the human oven. In a solid TV Match. Rhea Ripley would later address the fans, about the state of the women division, after watching a Nia Jax vingnette.

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven vs Indi Hartwell and Candace Lerae

Indi Hartwell and Candace Lerae beat. Piper Niven, and. Candace Lerae. In a pointless Match. Set up, because those Karens, don't think that the WWE referees are not up to par. I can't lie people the Match was s***. 

Gunther Is back

Gunther Is back. Ludwig Kaiser gave him his character Introduction. And what came next was a bit, well, It was a mix bag. Gunther put over his appreciation to Ludwig, for keeping things together, whilst he was away. and then Insulted the fans In Little Rock Arkansaw, saying that they smell of desparation and s***. Xavier Woods came out, to take up the fight for his fallen brother. Kofi Kingston, Xavier challenged him to a Match, Ludwig accepted. The Match was decent. It had some good physicality, and both men showcased they have good chemistry, however. It ended In a dq finish, which It cheapened the match. The pair then proceeded to feed each steel objects. This had me rolling my eyes.

Akira Tazawa vs Ivor

Akira Tazawa, beat. Ivor In a fun comedy Match, because Maxine Is dead sexy, except she Is nowhere near looks of, the character. Fat bastard from the Austin Powers films, oh behave Maxine. Chad Gable was happy with what he saw, and that little pit bull Ivy Nile wants a piece of. Valhalla, because of the beatdown. Maxine, and. Tazawa received. I laughed my arse off watching this.

Rhea Ripley segment

This had to be the best segment on the show by far. Rhea Ripley came out, and set the record straight, she said, she Is sick and tired of women running their mouths, ahead of the Royal Rumble, she said, that when she faces who wins the Rumble. Don't waste your oppotunity. This brought out. The Man. Becky Lynch, they had a fantastic back and forth dual, from their International routes travelled, which painted the perfect picture of careers counteracting each other. Their Mania wins and loss records speak for themselves. This led Becky to admit one thing, Rhea might be better than her, and In order to get better, she has to beat Rhea, Rhea agreed, and said, see you at Mania to Becky.  Rhea vs Becky at Mania, umm. Yes please.

Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark vs Tegan Nox and Natalya

Ok. I'm just going to say It. I hated this f****** Match. It felt flat, boring, and pathetic. Baszler and Stark got the win. I don't care.

Seth Rollins vs Jinder Mahal WWE Heavyweight Championship

This Match acted like reminder of why I'm not a fan of Jinder Mahal. His In ring style Is boring, clunky, and a mess. This Match had Its moments. Like Indus Sheer coming back. Damien Priest trying to cash in, his briefcase, and then getting taken out by Drew Mcintyre, their Match next week should bang. But things did pick up, and Seth got the win with a stomp. This Match was like toast without the peanut butter, bread will fill you up, but. It's the filling that makes you think. Yes I'm going to come back to this. Seth did his best to hide Jinders short comings, which to explained all of the shenanigans. Seth accidentally got Injured during this Match. He was helped to the back off screen, and at the time of writing, was being medically assessed.

Overview of WWE Monday Night Raw

This weeks Raw, felt like a trip to the newsagents on a Saturday afternoon, when I was a kid. I was allowed to stuff my face with Mars Bars and molteasers, that afternoon whilst watching WCW, The chocolate was great, but eventaully the taste faded, whilst the show had me hooked, to the point that, I would stop playing with my Biker Mice From Mars toys, which Is a good thing, that has carved a cool path for me In my life. Then. Now, and. Forever Isn't just a phrase, It's a way of life.

This weeks Monday night Raw Is a mid 6/10.

Smackllision Review Weekend Round Up 12.1 to 14.1.2024

Intro

With the Royal Rumble, just two weeks away, at the time of writing. I have to say, this Is my second favourite time of year to be a wrestling fan. And over the past couple of years, this has amplified. From. Cm Punk, and. Mjf, having a flawless war of words, to. Stone Cold Steve Austin coming out of retirement, to shatter that glass one more time, and then there was everything that caused. The Bloodline to help bring WWE back to prominance. From now until early april Is going to be a very Interesting time, With many questions to be asked. Will Sting win his final Match? Who will Punk face at Mania? And Importantly, will. Cody finish his. Never Ending Story, with the looming threat of Dwayne, hanging In a rather concerning background. As a lifelong wrestling fan. I'm living In fascinating, strange times. And I'm all here for It. Let the good times roll I say.

Smackdown

Grayson Waller vs Cameron Grimes

This Match never Happened. Because just as Cameron Grimes, made his way to the ring, he was taken out by. The Bloodline. Paul Heyman took to the mic, to play the game of, pin everything on Nick Aldis. Nick Confirmed that the Fatal 4 way Match Is going ahead. And then put. Jimmy, and. Solo In a 3 on 2 Handicap Match against, Reigns opponents. Randy Orton. LA Knight, and. Aj Styles, for the main event. I thought the dialogue between both men wasn't great, and the fact that this was pulled out, Into an episode long through story, to see whether they can find anyone to join them, to make It a 3 way tag Match. Was utterly tedious. And one other thing. Am I the only person, who thinks that. WWE have dropped the ball with Cameron Grimes. I mean, you don't bring someone up from NXT, and do nothing with them. Mind you, the scenile old p****, who had to resign In disgrace, did this all the time.  

 Garza and Humberto vs Jaquin Wilde and Cruise Del Toro

This Match needed more time to breathe. It felt very short, yet It had a lot crammed Into It. From Del Toro taking a flying trip, taking out Humberto, the exchanges being well timed. And. Carlito, and. Santos Escobar, having a tussle In the crowd. Even though, like I said. It needed more time, this Match was fun. Garza and Humberto got the win, by rolling up Wilde, whilst holding the ropes, Garza and Humberto, are not just sexy bastards, their cheating bastards.

Carmelo Hayes meets Nick Aldis

Carmelo Hayes, was spotted In the office of Smackdown general Manager. Nick Aldis, that was until they were Interrupted by. Grayson Waller, and. Austin Theory. This played Into Waller, and. Hayes History from NXT. Aldis booked him to face Theory later on In the show. Ok look I'm going to address the elephant In the room. The Match was called off premature, after both men were knocked sideways, when Theory tried to do a scissor attempt. This was a total accident, and both men need support, and not critisism. Accidents happen, their not doing ballet, what they are doing Is a two way dance, In which when their adrenaline Is flowing, It does leave room for something that Is snug, to unravel. My thoughts go out to both men, and I hope neither one Is out for too long.

Logan Paul segment

Logan Paul threatens to sue Kevin Owens. KO, answered this back later on. So Logan Paul wants to take. KO, to court because the cast that's on his hand, resembles. Mel Gibson, a. Lethal Weapon. Now that's what I call, the pot calling the kettle black. Bitcoin anyone.

Bianca Belair vs Bayley

Given their history. I was expecting something special, but what I got, was a moderately paced, formulaic. TV Match. From Belair hitting a flying press onto Bayley. Belair using her hair to have some fun with Bayley. The Damage Ctrl leader ( for now ) ate some turnbuckle, on two occassions. Both ladies showed their brilliant chemistry, which helped the Match breathe. But It was Bianca, who took the win, after. Bayleys loneliness got the better of her, when the rest of. Damage Ctrl, did not help her. This allowed. Belair, to hit her with a kod, for the win. This was far to story based for my liking. Damage Ctrl are definately going to become the. No Bayleys club.

Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits segment

Bobby Lashley, and. The Street Profits came out. And called out. Karrion Kross, and his new gaggle of p*****. They were met by a creepy vingnette, I hated this segment. I felt cheap, lazy, and unwanted. Now don't get me wrong, the old school fan In me from when I was a kid, Loves the fact that. Paul what a rush Ellering Is back on my TV, I just don't have a lot of time for Karrion Kross. Scarlett, and of course. The Aop. The Final Testement, That's Is one of the worst wrestling group names, that I have ever heard.

Randy Orton, LA Knight, and. Aj Styles vs Solo Sikoa, and. Jimmy Uso

This yet another over story saturated Match, from Its episode long through story, to this. A formulaic TV Match, that left me with more questions, than It did answers. The action was decent, but overall, not something I wolud not choose to watch again. Randy got taken out In the early going by. Solo Sikoa. And came back later on. Making It a 3 on 2 Match again. Randy led them to the win, by targeting Jimmy Uso. All three men then went to school on him, and his younger brother. Both men ate steel step sandwiches, as the babyfaces evened the scores, sending a clear message to Roman. Were coming, and were not backing down.

Adam Copelands Open Challenge

Adam Copeland started off the show, with his Cope Ope, and who took up the challenge, none other than. Lee Moriarty. Moriarty, who was walked out by Shane Taylor, who came out with a load of talk, that he could not back up. I didn't like this Match. It felt predictable. But when you think about It, even though Copeland facing Christian Cage Is the end goal. The main goal Is to give back to the Industry, by helping the future. Let me explain. Back In 2015. John Cena had a critically acclaimed open challenge. At that point Hollywood was a glimmer In John's eye, because executives, were looking at Vince Mcmahons golden multi coloured goose. His open Challenge was an Industry benchmark, for how to bring up young talent, with. Kevin Owens. Pac, and. Samy Zayn, all benefiting from, big time Johns rub. Adam Copeland Is In that phase of his career, where It looks like he Is taking talent to one side, to work with them, In order to make them better. Even though the Match was predictable. I don't think Its right to slam a Match, when the heart of It, Is In the right place. Copeland won with his version of the crippler crossface. He then called out Christian Cage In the aftermath, calling for his scrawny ass.

Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho segment

Sammy Guevara, and. Chris Jericho, had a backstage segment ahead of their, Tag Team Championship Match against. Big Bill, and. Ricky Starks, and during this segment. I kept thinking. Is Kevin Dunn now All Elite. Now I have to address the elephant In the room. ( again ) Given all of the serious accusations, that are circulating about Chris Jericho at the moment In time. I don't think It's a good Idea to have Chris on TV.

Brian Cage and the Gates Of Agony vs The Righteous and Lance Archer

Brian Cage and the Gates Of Agony, beat. Lance Archer, and. The Righteous. To retain her ROH Trios Championships. The Match was fun, not great, but fun. Prince Nana got laid out by. Jake Roberts, Nana then called out Bullet Club, for a Match on Dynamite this week. Later on In the show. Jay White, and. The Gunn Club accepted the Challenge. So we we've got a Trios Championship this week on Dynamite. Sounds good.

Preston Vance segment

Because his Match with Orange Cassidy, on. Battle Of The Belts, which followed this show. Preston Vance Is being watched by. Roderick Strong.

Dustin Rhodes vs Willie Mack

Dustin Rhodes beat Willie Mack. In a flat TV Match. He was then Interviewed by. Renee Paquette, and he was Interrupted by. Christian Cage. Nick Wayne, and his mum, who's got It going on, came Into shot. Everyone's favourite stand up guy, said that, said he does not approve of the company that he keeps, in the same way that a father would. And just like that, he brought up his dead dad. The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Dustin then challenged him, to put his belt on the line, this. Wednesday on. Dynamite. Tony Khan later on confirmed this. The Match was a throwaway thing. But what we've got coming sounds good.

Hook was seen showing up to the arena, and he wants a Match tonight. Tony Khan later on granted this.

Hangman Adam Page vs Jd Drake

Hangman Adam Page, beat. Jd Drake In a Match that was a physical entertaining slugfest. From Anthony Henry, punting Hangman In the head. Hangman getting win with a well timed buckshot lariot, to him celebrating at ringside with his family. The Match was a good TV Match.

Deona Purrazzo vs Red Velvet

Deona Purrazzo, beat. Red Velvet In a solid TV Match. I liked this for Purrazzos debut Match. And. Red Velvet was a perfect opponent to give her the best counteraction. In my fantasy booking brain. I want Deona to face. Britt Baker. Tai Melo, and. Thunder Rosa. ( please booking gods ) Because, just think of the Mone, that she could make.

Hook vs Kevin Mathews

Hook wrecked newcomer Kevin Mathews. In a squash Match, that makes sense. Hook will face Samoa Joe on Wednesdays Dynamite. So In order to make him look strong, this was a clever Idea.

The House Of Black vs Daniel Garcia and Ftr

From Daddy Magic on Commentary, to the mindgames that. Garcia, and. Ftr showed to their counterparts. The physicality was deep routed In emotion, that never came out, until the midway point. This helped the story have time to breathe. The near falls were well timed, this Match was a fun half hour, that flew by. Dax, and. Cash paid homage to. The Steiner Brothers. In a flawless exchange. Both teams Insyncness was clearly evident here, but It was The House Of Black, that got the win with a blackmas, that lead Into a stomp.

Overview Of The Weekend

If I'm being honest, both main shows, this weekend were hard to get through. smackdown to me was a major let down, and. Aew Collision, felt more like Aew Saturday Night Heat, unlike what we have come to expect from. Aew's. Saturday night offering.

This Weeks Friday Night Smackdown Is a mid 5/10. And. Aew Collision by Aew's Standards Is mid 7/10.

Aew Dynamite Homecoming 10.1.2024

Intro

With 2024 now In full swing, It's nice to see that, some things from 2023 have rolled Into 2024. Now don't worry everyone. I have It on very good authority, that. Tony Khan was at Dynamite last night, but In stead of sitting In the guerilla area, he was on the naughty step, and has had his phone priveleges taken away. Learn your lessons from this everyone, Twitter Is a toxic cesspool.

Hangman Adam Page vs Claudio Castagnoli

Right from the outset, this was a physical war, with both men showcasing excellent chemistry, and solid fluidity, from. Hangman having a nice beer break. Which was a nice throwback to the good old Pandemic days. To Claudio, slamming him, and stomping him on the rampway. Hangman hit Claudio with a running lariot, that gave us a great near fall. This helped the Match breathe, Both men had some fun utilizing the wall, this allowed Hangman to ddt Claudio, and hit him with a stunning moonsault. Hangman then performed two buck shot Larots on Claudio for the win. I liked this opener. I felt that It more than delivered on the night. And It was great to see the crowd In, Dailys place, so up for It.

   8 Man Tag Match

Orange Cassidy. Preston Vance. Dustin Rhodes, and Adam Copeland, beat The Mogul Embassy and lance Archer, In a fun 8 man tag Match. The Match was a lot of fun. From Cassidy being passed around between the Mogul Embassy, and then getting slammed by Brian Cage, this confirmed to me that, Cassidy has no equilbrium. Jake Roberts taking out Hose the assistant. to each man having energetic bursts, that helped the Match breathe. All of this was brought together to comemerate the life of Brodie Lee. Texas Tornado Tag Match Sting and Darby Allin vs Hobbs and Takeshista

If I could think of a phrase to describe this Match, what would It be? I think the phrase bat s*** crazy would do just fine.
