My Top 5 Matches That Happened During The Undertakers Streak At Mania.
Intro.
In the stadium, the lights go down, and the sense of dreading fate and doom echoes around the place, and goes around all fans senses. Metallica made the phrase For Whom The Bell Tolls, but as the fear of neverending doom comes close, the reaper from Deathvalley has moulded Mania history, into his own path of Hell, and in hindsight it has been a pleasure, and a nightmare as the numbers grew into existance.
5 Boneyard Match Mania 36.
As the circumstances of the worlds reality grew in 2020. WWE faced a Challenge for the show of shows. As the situation got worse, the company was forced to make a drastic change in how Wrestlemania would be pressented. Instead of it being hosted at Raymond James Stadium in Florida, they went behind cloesd doors, and filming it from an empty performance centre. This ment that The creative had to come up with ideas. And this in my opinion was one of the best. The Undertaker vs AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match. This was a visual treat, and an all out fun ride, that was soundtracked by Metallica. This may not have been the best way to send off The Deadman, given the circumstances. I think WWE did the best they could. I know this isn't in the streak, but I just love this Match.
4. The Undertaker vs HHH Mania 17.
In late 1999 due to gaining a shopping list of injuries that Mark Calloway had collected over the past decade. He took time off, and didn't come back until May 2000's Judgement day PPV. This wasn't the same old Taker, he had donned a new persona, instead of the drench of impending doom, we were greated by a blueprint of American Freedom. The American Badass. Fast forward ten months, and he was getting ready to play The Game at Mania in the confines of a No Holds Barred Match. From Motorhead walking down the future COO, to both men crafting a fun Match, that still holds up today.
3 The Undertaker vs Cm Punk Mania 29.
Even though this Match is heralded as a work of genius. The build was less so in my opinion. Paul Bearer who's real name is William Moody, sadly passed away. The build was extremely raw and uncomfortable to watch, as Punk played with Takers Urn, I get this was a planned spot, but to me this was a bit distasteful, and as the weeks went on, this elevated the hype around the Match, I just think that there was another way to go about this. The Match however was a stellar look at how Taker was aging, and how a career at this time, we may have reached its peak. I rewatched this Match recently, and it is a reminder of what i've just mentioned, and it got me thinking. Age is nothing but a number.
2. The Undertaker vs Batista Mania 23.
This was a rivalry that shaped the landscape over on the bluebrand, over the space of 2007, in a time when the industry would undergo a massive overhaul, but three months before this happened, this Match took place at Mania 23. Both men were pissed off when they were told that they weren't going to be getting the main event slot, so they went out there and stole the show. And they call HBK The Showstopper.
1 The Undertaker vs HBK Mania 25.
This Match is a true test of wills, from start to finish. There's a reason why fans say that this is a classic. Those who were in attendence were on their feet from the moment when both men made their entrances, and throughout the entire 20 plus minute duration of the Match. Timeless people. Just timeless.
