My Top 5 Insights From UFC Fight Night Shanghai.
Intro.
With the Summer coming to an end. I have found myself in a reflective moode, when it comes to the worlds leading fight organisation. I think that this has been a strong time for the Vegas outlet. From steller PPV's to great Fight Night cards. I get why some people think that the promotion is in its dull period, but if you dig beneath the surface, you will find things that you might like, because that's what it's all about.
Taiyilake Nuerajivs Is A Lucky Fighter.
Illegal knees in MMA are highly dangerous, and Taiyilake Nuerajivs is one lucky fighter, because when he hit Kiefer Crossbie with one, there was a point when the fight could've been thrown out, and in my opinion in should've been, because Kiefer wasn't the same after this. Taiyilake got the win, because when he had 2 points deducted from his score cards, it was a case of do or die.
4. Sumudaerji looked good.
It amazes me that in our year of 2025 Team Alphamale is still a thing. Sumudaerji looked good today, his booking looked crisp, and his groundwork looked solid. You can tell that using his time in Sacremento has worked well to his advantage. He got the win by Decision.
3. Sergei Pavolivich Looked Good.
Sergei Pavolich on his last outing didn't look very good, but after watching his fight today against Waldo Cortes Acosta, I have to say that the old Pavlovich is looking like he's on his way back, he made Cortes Acosta look very average on his feet, and it showed here. He got the win by decision.
2. Brian Ortega.
I'm not sure why, but i'm not a big fan of Brian Ortega. I'm not a big fan of his attitude. It was reported yesterday that Ortega was struggling to make the weight limit of 145 pounds. This meant that the fight had to done at a Catchweight. Michael Bisping called this out on commentary, and said that he saw Brians team buying alcoholic bath salts, just so Brian could shed those extra pounds on Thursday. This to me says two things. Was this Brians Body stallling, and not allowing him to lose the weight, or has he not been looking after himself, these are questions that are going to have to be answered. Aljamain Sterling on the other hand looked amazing today, and he completely outclassed the former Featherweight No1 Contender.
1. Johny Walker.
This was a fight that resembled a fast paced football Match. Brazil vs China. Chung Ming Zhang showed real heart, and speed in the early goings, but it was Johny that got the win, after Chung showed a vital flaw in his game, this allowed johny to pick up the win by TKO.
