My Top 5 Thoughts From UFC Fight Night Vancouver.
Intro.
As the year slowly draws to a close in the coming weeks. This is normally the time when the UFC Presesnts its best events, and next weekend at UFC 321 is looking no different, but before we get to Abu Dhabi, we have to make a trip to Vancouver Canada for this fight night card, and it was fairly good. So lets get into it.
5. RIP Duke Rufus.
On Friday Morning the MMA world was saddened to hear of the passing of Duke Rufus, at the age of 58. I'm not going to go into to much detail about this, because I will be going into this on Wednesday in my own top 5 list. Paul Felder was seen to be very emotional on screen, which is understandable, due to the fact that Duke was his career coach.
4. Kyle Nelson And That Finish To The 1st Round.
This was a confusing end to a great 1st round. After Nelson flawed Matt Frevola, he was seen laying in hammer fists, and at one point you could hear the 10 second clacker sound, and with three seconds to go Dan Miragliotta ended the fight, but then it restarted. This caused major confusion, and as it turned out he didn't stop the fight. This was a dangerous move, because if a fighter is fighting after this, and isn't a 100%, then this could be detrimental to the health of the fighter. He's there to protect the fighter from themself, this would be the start of a bad night for the once respected ref. Kyle Nelson put on a good showing, and in all of this talk about Dan, this has been ignored. He got the win by decision, and in the post fight interviews that he took part in, he showed a side that wasn't angry with Dan for this incident.
3. Charles Jourdain. Ok Bantamweights Should Scared.
There's only been a few times in my life, that i've ever seen one sided ownings in fights, and now I can add this to my list. Charles Jourdain wrecked Davey Grant in quick succession with a flying knee to the face, and a guilitine choke. Oh my this was awesome.
2. Dan Miragliotta Night Just Got Worse.
The fight between Kevin Holland and Mike Malott was a let down. Kevin was loballed twice in family jewels, he was ok after the first one, but it was the second one that had me shouting at the screen. Kevin was given way too much time to recover, and during this time were points taken away, no, and was a medical professional told to come in and take a look at Kevin, well that's also a no. Kevin wasn't the same after this, and ended up losing by decision, and this was a reminder of the fact. If a fighter can't fight, then that should be that.
1. Reinier De Ridder.
Brendan Allen, absolutely dominated Reinier De Ridder, and that's about it. I didn't know what to make of this. I felt that this was a mixture between, a bad day at the office, and Allen putting on a four round ground game clinic, that De Ridder had no answer to.
